Food Markets & Corner Stores #3

March 2016, my first trip to Chile… Santiago de Chile(and Valparaiso). What to do in Santiago? What to see? Or…what to eat? A good tip can be: join a free walking tour, and more specific: “The Santiago Offbeat Walking Tour” . A nice, cool first introduction to Chile, the Chilenos their habits and culture. Yep, also their food culture. Avocados a volonté,and there is much more! One of the highlights of the “Offbeat Tour” is discovering Chile’s largest food markets:  Mercado Central and La Vega Central (also known as Feria Mapocho). With a smile, the vendors gonna prepare you a smoothie, or let you try a traditional local Sopapilla(fried round pumpkin bread)! I really hope, my picture gallery can convince you to have a stroll in La Vega & Mercado Central if you are in Santiago de Chile:).

  1. Thank you for these photos. It has been many years since I was in Santiago.

  2. Great shots, and I particularly like the fountain with the cat.

  3. Some different kinds of fish to what you normally see in Oostende eh? 🙂

  4. Just amazing Stef. There are so many vibrant colors and the amount of things to look at and try, wow! I want to go 😊

  5. I love markets, the world over and always make them part of our trips to foreign lands. Most recently, we were in Peru and I wrote a four part series on the Mercato San Pedro, if you’re interested…. https://trailtopeaktheadventurouspath.com/2016/10/15/peruvian-food-the-mercato-san-pedro-part-1/

If you’re still in Santiago, be sure to go check out the area with all of the graffiti art. It is incredible, and provides amazing photo opportunities.
